NF1/1.[1]Martin Nolan   =   Sarah O'Meara.
          (1853 - 1927)     [m.1881]  (1858 - 1944)

From soon after the middle of the 19th Century some of the personal history is known of a young farm lad called Martin Nolan living in County Cork in Ireland who wanted to marry a young lady called Sarah Jane O'Meara.  She was the daughter of the head Constable in Dublin and, unfortunately, neither family was too pleased about this proposed union, mainly because his family were Catholics and hers were Protestants; in addition Sarah's parents wanted someone more suitable for their daughter and with better prospects as a son-in-law.  So, because they forbade the marriage, Martin and Sarah eloped, running away together to catch a ship to Australia.
