F6/3.[9]8 Elizabeth Freemantle         =     Jeremiah Woodland
                     (1842 -          )       [m. 1870]   (1839 - 1888)
Elizabeth Freemantle was the eighth child and youngest daughter of *Samuel Freemantle and *Sarah Elizabeth Freemantle nee Paxton.  She was born in Grahamstown on 13.5.1842.
By the time she was twenty-two the family had left Grahamstown and her parents were farming at Kleinfontein in the Cradock district.
On 28.3.1870, aged twenty-eight, she married in Cradock, Jeremiah Woodland, the son of Henry Woodland and *Hannah Woodland nee Hartley (b. 1806).
[ For information on the Hartley family refer in this collection under Elizabeth Freemantle's sister, Emma Freemantle -  see F6/3.[9]5  Emma Freemantle  =  Casper Henry Hartley]
Jeremiah Woodland was an auctioneer and a general dealer in Cradock and there were four children of this marriage.  He died on 4.4.1888 at his own residence in Cradock, aged 48 years, 5 months and 4 days.  The date and whereabouts of the death of his wife, Elizabeth Woodland nee Freemantle has not yet been traced, but she signed his death certificate, so it must have been after 1888.
According to this certificate there were three children living at the time of his death: (1) Emma Alice Woodland (2) Lilian Maud Woodland and (3) Arthur Leonard Woodland (b. 1.11.1877, Cradock).  However, the church records for the christening of the children are as follows:
c.1. Lois Hannah Woodland
b.16.3.1871 Cradock,    (presumably she died young)
c.2. Emma Alice Woodland
       b. 24.3.1873 Cradock
c.3.  Lilian Maud Woodland
       b. 5.9.1875 Cradock
c.4. Althea Lenora Woodland (?)
       b. 1.11.1877 Cradock
