Not long after their return from this pleasant excursion, Phyllis visited some of her family in Rhodesia, coming home towards the middle of November. She was not well from that time and required the doctor's attention. Then, on the evening of 14th December, she was most unwell and retired to bed, by Saturday morning she was in a state of collapse, the doctor ordered an oxygen tent to assist her breathing. She died on Sunday, 16th December, 1957 at her home in Dunkeld. Her ashes are in the Garden of Remembrance in Johannesburg.
